Recommended Recipe – Bibimbap

Bibimbap simply translates to “mixed rice with meat and assorted vegetables“. You can make endless variations to this dish depending on your preference.
Ingredients (serves 4)
Meat and vegetables:
• 3.5 ounces beef mince
• 1 Tbsp soy sauce
• 1 Tbsp sesame oil
• 1 tsp sugar – I used brown sugar
• 1/4 tsp minced garlic
• ½ lb spinach, chopped
• ¾ lb bean sprouts
• 3.5 ounces shiitake mushroom, julienned
• 1 small carrot, julienned
• 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
• 4 serving portions of steamed rice
• 4 eggs
• Vegetable oil
Bibimbap sauce:
• 2 Tbsp gochujang
• 1 Tbsp sesame oil
• 1 Tbsp sugar
• 1 Tbsp water
• 1 Tbsp roasted sesame seeds
• 1 tsp vinegar
• 1 tsp minced garlic
Method
Mix the beef mince with the following 4 ingredients and marinate for about 30 mins while you mix the Bibimbap sauce ingredients in a separate bowl.
Heat cooking oil into a wok or large skillet and cook the meat on medium high to high heat for 3 to 5 mins until thoroughly cooked. Set aside.
Heat oil and 1/2 tsp of fine sea salt in a wok and cook the carrots, spinach, bean sprouts and shitake mushrooms on medium high heat for 2 minutes.
Fry the eggs sunny side up in a separate skillet
Put the rice into a bowl and top with meat, vegetables, Bibimbap sauce and the egg. Stir before eating.
