What’s Hot in 2019

While Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia are mainstays, Asia Answers is predicting an increase in travel to Borneo. Here is what you need to know about this fabulous destination.

Borneo can be a bit confusing to prospective travelers as the island is shared by the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak, Indonesian Kalimantan and the tiny nation of Brunei. Traveler’s will find the widest array of experiences in Sabah and Sarawak:

SWIM WITH TURTLES in Sipadan Island off the east coast of Sabah. Renown as one of the best diving spots in the world, even those who prefer to snorkel will see black coral, enormous grouper and, most prized of all, hawksbill turtles.

SUMMIT A UNESCO SITE. Mount Kinabalu is the highest mountain between the Himalayas and New Guinea. It is also one of the most accessible, with well-maintained paths, and the world’s highest protected climbing route at over 12,000’.

VISIT THE OLD MAN OF THE JUNGLE, the Orangutan. Notoriously hard to spot in the wild, a visit to one of the rehabilitation centers is the best way to see the red apes, who drop by for a piece of fruit (or 10) during the day. The Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Sarawak and the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Sabah are both recommended.

JUNGLE CRUISE Spot wildlife such as crocodiles, pygmy elephants and monitor lizards on the banks of the river as you cruise along the Kinabatangan. Overnight an an Eco Lodge.
