Recommended Reading -  Series books

With many of us spending more time than usual at home, here is a list of books that are not only enjoyable alone, but are also part of a series. Plenty to read while you are enjoying this unexpected down time.  Books stand alone, but are best if read in order. Here are my favorites, but would love to hear yours!

Louise Penny   Chief Inspector Armand Gamache is the main character in a series of 16 mystery novels. The series is set around the life of Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of Sûreté du Québec, the provincial police force for Quebec.

Donna Leon is the American author of a series of crime novels set in Venice, Italy, featuring the fictional hero Commissario Guido Brunetti. Leon lived in Venice for over 30 years.  Her Commissario Brunetti novels all take place in or around Venice. They are written in English and have been translated into many foreign languages, but—at Leon’s request—not into Italian!

Deborah Crombie has captured the imagination of people around the world with her award-winning series, the Duncan Kincaid / Gemma James novels. Her British mystery series which is based on Superintendent Duncan Kincaid and Sergeant Gemma James takes place in the UK.

Jacqueline Winspear  The Maisie Dobbs private investigator books are mysteries set in England between 1910 and 1929. These books are especially enjoyable from an historical fiction standpoint.
