2019 Roadshow takeaways

This time of year is particularly busy as our annual Africa + Asia + Antipodes roadshow is held over the first two weeks of November. Not familiar with our roadshow? It’s a wonderful day-long gathering of our tourism partners, who present their destinations to our travel agent partners in 8 cities across the US, sometimes in their sleepwear.

In 2019, we had many great Asian and African presenters. Here’s a list of who was there, and a brief take-away from their presentation.

EVA AIRWAYS –  The airline with the most affordable premium economy service. Warning: you’ll never fly coach again.

TOURISM SOUTH KOREA – Not only is Korean cuisine out of this world delicious, but their breath-takingly beautiful cherry blossom season is not over-touristed.   

TOURISM THAILAND – An emerging region, and a great addition for repeat travelers, is Nan, a rural province in northern Thailand, known for its numerous national parks home to waterfalls, limestone mountains, rare plants, wild boars, black bears and birds.

TOURISM TAIWAN – Taiwan is a paradise for foodies on a budget (think dinner for four at Din Tai Fung for less than $50!) and a mecca for cyclists, hikers and nature-lovers. Calories in, calories out. 

TOURISM HONG KONG – Yes, Hong Kong is in the news, but for tourists, it really is business as usual.  Our industry deserves more balanced reporting.

CATHAY PACIFIC – is offering cash vouchers for selected retailers at Hong Kong International Airport, valued at ~USD485, as a thank you for flying with them over the Holidays.  Make the most of your time at the airport – pick up a last-minute gift, have a bite to eat, or enjoy a pre-flight massage.

SOUTH AFRICA TOURISM – A perennial favorite and a great place to start a South African trip,  Cape Town is now a nonstop destination from New York on a United Airlines 787-9 Dreamliner. 

KENYA TOURISM BOARD – The new rail service between Nairobi and Mombasa has been a game changer. Safaris by rail are now a thing! 

VICTORIA FALLS – Africa Albida’s flagship property Victoria Falls Safari Lodge has been voted the Best Safari Lodge in Zimbabwe for 23 consecutive years! Now that is something to change into your leopard print pajamas and give a presentation about!
